If paradise exists on earth, it must be Jaco Island. Join us as we venture to the mystical island at the furtherest eastern point of mainland Timor Leste.
Jaco Island has been capturing travelers hearts with its gorgeous surrounding white beach and healthy underwater life.We make our way to Jaco either by boat or four wheel drive vehicles. By boat, we cruise east past some of the most dramatic coastline and stunning coral reefs. The possibility of stopping and diving at any secluded reef - that is not accessible through land - is very exciting. In some months, we may even see the migrating whales as unique as a Pygmy Blue whale. Please inquire if you wish to do the Jaco Island Adventure by boat.
Our regular Jaco Island Adventure, takes the scenic route by road. It is the ultimate way to experience the on-land beauty of Timor Leste, passing through picturesque districts and villages. Along the way we break the trip by calling into a nice dive spot to splash around, blow some bubbles and recharge with a picnic. Baucau is the next stop on the map to refresh and experience delicious Timor coffee served at the Pousada de Baucau.
The final stage is the trip down to Valu Beach where we base ourselves at the homestead that peers over to Jaco Island from the veranda. The accommodation is comfortable, containing private rooms with fans and own bathrooms. There is electricity all day and night and phone reception most times. Mana Alvina and her staff really look after us and our appetites with fresh local produce to accompany the barbeque, and if you consume fish you will have the freshest catch-of-the-day cooked to your liking.
Jaco Island is a sacred island so only day visits are permissible. Each morning after breakfast we load up the dive gear, arrange a fisherman's boat and motor over to the island for two spectacular dives and enjoy the island time snorkelling whilst lunch is later delivered. As the sun starts to set we reload the boats and head back to the homestead to shower, relax, eat and talk about the amazing wildlife we saw underwater with a few other stories too.
As part of our commitment to sustainable tourism we encourage our guests to take care of the environment and the local culture. We bring back everything we take plus a few bags of what may have washed ashore and only leave footprints in the sand.
On our last day, we make a shore entry dive from Valu Beach before packing up and capturing last moment memories. On the drive back we stop in again to the Pousada for a Portuguese dinner and start to reminisce. Then, its the drive back to Dili.
Valu Beach and Jaco Island are family friendly and if diving is not for you, snorkeling is just as much fun.
